Afsheen has an extensive and broad engineering experience locally and internationally. Her main areas of practice include Natural stone cladding connections and backup system engineering, structural engineering, residential structural engineering, light gauge steel and connections. She has designed and managed various industrial, commercial and residential projects, requiring intricate façade back-up structures for composite and natural stone cladding, using both conventional and unitized applications.
Afsheen holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering from N.E.D University of Engineering & Technology. She has completed Concrete Design and Steel Design programs from the University of Calgary and possesses a Masonry Design certification from CMDC.
An approach to engineering balancing research and innovation with pragmatic application has been a key theme throughout Crispin’s career spanning more than 20 years. Explorations employing this unique approach have yielded iconic structures developed through deep collaboration with world class architects, designers, developers, and fabricators.
Crispin’s journey of engineering exploration began at the University of Waterloo and flourished with 15 years at the legendary Canadian firm, Yolles Partnership. With Yolles, Crispin advanced to the role of Senior Associate and delivered some of the firm’s highest profile and most ambitious projects. This role included leading initiatives in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and wood construction, along with managing the firm’s complex geometry thinktank, the Studio for Progressive Modeling. With Erakovic Engineering, Crispin collaborated further with fabricators to develop leading edge construction methods to deliver highly buildable solutions. Beyond roles within these firms, Crispin has contributed to the overall knowledge base of the AEC industry by participated in code committees for wood construction and by giving presentations on complex architectural geometry and BIM integration.
Karl is an indispensable part of the PICCO team and has proudly been with the organization since 1999. As an integral part of the organization, Karl oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations driving best in class results with our internal team and for our valued clients. As an experienced problem solver and change agent, Karl is also a key driver of our strategic growth, HR planning, and sales processes.
Karl holds a Diploma in Architectural Technology from Centennial College, BCIN certification with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and is accredited through the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional (PMP) since Aug. 2002. Karl contributes regularly as a member of the Architectural Advisory Board at Humber College and is active within the AEC industry through its various associated communities.
Matthew Innocente is a professional engineer with an expertise in natural stone cladding connections, back-up system engineering, and structural engineering. He has engineered natural stone facades for various commercial, residential, and institutional projects both across Canada and the United States. Matthew has also designed various sub-framing systems for natural stone cladding including Fischer system, EClad, Gridworx, and sub-framing for honeycomb-backed stone panels.
Matthew’s formal education includes both a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) from the University of Toronto Civil Engineering department with a specialization in Structural Engineering. Matthew has also completed the Masonry Design certification course offered by CMDC.
Neb is a recognized industry leader, creative technical expert and collaborator, who thrives on challenging roles within projects of all scale and complexity. He is focused on results and committed to excellence in delivery of broad project objectives; adaptable and driven by an enthusiasm for creative solutions that deliver value to his clients and society.
Neb began his career as an academic at the University of Sarajevo and progressed as an engineer and project manager with major Canadian engineering firms, including Yolles Partnership. Shifting focus to a management role, Neb was a senior member of the CH2M Global Buildings group and a director of the Dubai Buildings Group of global engineering firm, Arup. Over the course of a more than 25-year career, Neb has cultivated numerous areas of skill expertise across all major market sectors, both locally and internationally. Neb has been an invited speaker at major AEC industry conferences and distinguished universities, published papers and has contributed to the development of the overall industry as a member of building standard committees and various associations.
Xin has led over 100 projects including those involving residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. He thoroughly understands and appreciates that structural consultancy is a service business and always provides clients with safe structural designs that are also the most economical structural solution. Saving clients time and money is a priority to Xin. As such, a strong focus on value-engineering is very important to him and the teams that he leads.
Xin obtained a Master’s Degree in Building Engineering from Concordia University and holds a Bachelor's degree in Building Engineering. He possesses design skills in concrete, steel, and masonry structures, as well as structural restoration. Xin is proficient in a variety of structural analysis software.
Analisa is a Project Manager with vast experience that includes project coordination and management, workload delegation, collaboration with engineers and training staff. She has a high level of experience in stone anchor detailing, panelized wall systems, precast concrete, structural framing and structural studs. Analisa is experienced in working closely with engineers, as well as clients and GC’s in an effort to mitigate site concerns and issues that arise throughout the project life cycle.
Analisa graduated from Sheridan College from their Architectural Technology Program.
Dustin is a Project Manager with extensive experience. His principal responsibilities include the project coordination and management, cost management, workload delegation, and detailing, estimation, and scheduling. He has extensive experience in detailing stone cladding technologies, panelized wall systems, composite material cladding, precast concrete, and structural studs. Dustin also has experience working in a 3D BIM environment and has been managing a number of projects in both Revit and Inventor to provide deliverables for complex geometry.
Dustin graduated from Humber College and earned his Advanced Diploma in their Architectural Technology Program.
Maria oversees the day-to-day running of the organization and plays an integral role in helping PICCO Engineering achieve its goals and targets. She is responsible for all financial functions, HR, Administration, IT, operations and strategic planning, working with the divisional managers.
Maria has extensive experience in senior leadership and executive roles, earning her a reputation as a skilled and accomplished business leader. She is a passionate, energetic and proactive leader committed to leading sustainable financial processes, business transformation and strategic business improvements. Maria received her Business degree from York University and holds a C.A. designation. She also is the proud recipient of the Order of Vaughan in 2018 for her not-for-profit work.
Mike is the driving force behind our continued success, with more than 25 years experience in stone consulting and structural engineering. Mike remains active in project sponsorship and is a much sought-after speaker and subject-matter expert on stone cladding and anchoring systems.
Mike earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree from McMaster University and is licensed in various jurisdictions. He is an active member of the Ontario Home Builders Association, a safety consultant for the Residential Framing Contractors Association of Metropolitan Toronto and vicinity, an member of the Canadian Standard Association technical committee on Masonry Design S304.1, and Consultant to The Terrazzo Tile and Marble Association of Canada, serving on their Dimension Stone Guide committee. Mike also currently sits on the Natural Stone Institute’s Executive Board of Directors and will serve as their president in 2021.
Sarah has always had a passion for creating which she puts to great use in all aspects since joining PICCO Engineering. She supports and drives all marketing endeavours including our website and social media. She also works closely with Mike Picco as his Executive Assistant and supports all IT matters. Her varied skills and contributions make her an indispensable part of the organization.
Sarah studied Visual Merchandising at Sheridan College. She is a key and proud member of the PICCO Fundraising Committee, organizing the PICCO Volley for Camp Ooch and raising awareness for this incredible cause.
Cassie is an administrative professional with a diverse background in Human Resources, Office Management and Finance. Working closely with our CFO, Cassie delivers exceptional administrative services to both our employees and clients. As a superuser for some of our key business systems, Cassie works with various team members to train employees and improve processes and efficiencies.
Cassie graduated from Seneca College, Business Administration - Human Resources Program with honours. Cassie is a certified member of our Joint Health and Safety Committee and a member of our Social Committee.
Jazz is Lead Engineer on PICCO’s residential projects. Jazz also provides engineering assistance in stone and lightweight cladding projects, both locally and abroad and has more than 30 years of construction experience.
Jazz holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Sanitary and Environmental Engineering and is registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the States of Michigan Illinois, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Tennessee, New York, Washington , Oregon, Colorado and the District of Columbia. He is certified and registered with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.
Mark is a professional engineer with experience in the structural consulting field and on a diverse range of projects utilizing structural steel, concrete, cold-formed steel, masonry, and wood design. He has designed and managed various commercial, residential, industrial, and agricultural projects from initial design conception through to completion of construction. The design of such projects has given him proficiency in various design software and all relevant Canadian design codes.
Mark graduated from the University of Toronto in 2010 completing a B.ASc. in Civil Engineering. Mark takes pride in providing his clients with the most economical and efficient structural design possible, in a timely and professional manner.
Nathaniel is a Project Manager with extensive experience in project management, stone cladding & general construction design. Communication, organization, quality control & scheduling are just some of the skills he excels at. Project & client management are always top of mind for him when striving to achieve successful results. His high-level leadership qualities are an asset, and he is always willing to collaborate to ensure projects are on target from start to finish.
He graduated from Humber College completing the Architectural Technology Program. Nathaniel is a certified Project Management Professional with a strong skillset in a variety of areas which have allowed him to become an integral part of any project he works on.
Over the years, Susy has been involved in various business and administrative matters with PICCO, ranging from collections to office décor and social event planning. She has been instrumental in supporting Mike while travelling and representing the PICCO team and organization. As PICCO grew, she felt it would benefit from formal Social and Fundraising Committees and now leads all event planning and fundraising initiatives with the help of her committee members.
Before PICCO had been established, Susy received her Canadian Securities Course licence and worked as a stock broker’s assistant at a prominent brokerage firm in downtown Toronto for five years. After her first child was born, she became a dedicated stay-at-home mom and homemaker for many years while providing support for Mike during the early years of PICCO.
