Today on the Picco blog we'd like to share another cultural project we are currently (and very proudly) working on. The Canadian Museum of Human Rights has a budget of $310 million dollars and is slated to open in Winnipeg, Manitoba in early 2012.

The Winnipeg site for the structure was carefully chosen - the Forks where the Assiniboine and Red Rivers meet. Antoine Predock, based out of Albuquerque, NM, was the winning designer for the CMHR and his vision and inspiration has come from the natural scenery and open spaces of Canada's great outdoors. The hexagonal shaped and LEED Silver Certified structure's stone features include back-lit Spanish alabaster cladding and imported basalt.

This is a massive project - both in size and in Canadian cultural significance, and an October 2010 article from Dan Lett at the Winnipeg Free Press gives a comprehensive overview of its complexities and sheer magnitude: "Glass, steel, concrete, stone and sweat"
