First Canadian Place Gets a Makeover
One of Toronto’s most iconic downtown buildings has been getting a facelift since last summer.
One of Toronto’s most iconic downtown buildings has been getting a facelift since last summer. The purpose: to replace the Italian Carrera marble sheathing that surrounds the tower with triple layered, fritted glass from a little closer to home -Brampton, ON.
It’s a big job. First Canadian Place is 900 feet tall and has held the title of Canada’s highest office tower since being built in 1975. The “Redefining First” project has a budget of 100 million dollars.
A recent National Post article details the project through the words of EllisDon site superintendent Michael Brodigan and local glass producer Sota Glazing Inc.’s foreman Nino Pastore. It’s another testament to Canadian structural engineering and our commitment to homecrafted materials.
